Michael Stewart-Evans, NYC Junior Board
Current Employer & Position Title: UN Women, Policy Analyst – Gender and Migration
Michael has been in New York since 2016, working on gender and migration policy at UN Women seeking to address the manifold ways that discrimination and inequalities plays out in the lives of migrants around the world. While he understands that his own experiences of being a migrant are vastly different to the many people seeking out help through AsylumConnect, he is acutely aware of the need for strong advocates to support LGBTQI+ migrants around the world.
Michael is a founding member and convener of UN Women’s LGBTQI+ global staff network and works closely with colleagues to strengthen the organization’s capacity to focus on LGBTQI+ rights, which included co-organizing the first high-level event at the UN during Pride Month 2019 focusing on the issue of gender beyond binaries.
He holds a Master of Public Policy and Human Development from Maastricht University in the Netherlands and is currently a student of law. Michael speaks Spanish and Portuguese.
