Service Provider Spotlight: LGBT Asylum Task Force
LGBT Asylum Task Force
As part of AsylumConnect’s initiative to spotlight the direct service providers on the ground working with LGBTQ+ asylum seekers and other LGBTQ+ people fleeing persecution, we’re proud to feature the LGBT Asylum Task Force.
The LGBT Asylum Task Force is a ministry of Hadwen Park Congregational Church, UCC in Worcester, Massachusetts that welcomes LGBTQ people of all faith traditions. Founded in 2008, they provide housing, food, and connection to legal, medical, and mental health resources at other local agencies. To date, they have helped hundreds of asylum seeking individuals in need of support. Asylum seekers are not allowed to work for up to 2 years after arriving in the United States. Their vital ministry provides comprehensive support for the entire duration of that two-year period in which it is needed.
Through the work of volunteers, they have been able to provide community and resources that have contributed to their 100% success rate of asylum petitions.
Ministry Director Al Green shares that the organization’s major annual gala fundraiser – their largest fundraiser to date – will take place on Saturday, September 24, 2022 in Worcester, MA. There will be a virtual component so that everyone who resonates with their mission will be able to participate in and provide support.
For those who are interested in being involved in their work either in-person or remotely, they encourage inquiring at firstname.lastname@example.org. (Inquiries for assistance can also be sent to this email address.)
