AsylumConnect 2020 Annual Report
AsylumConnect's FY 2020 Annual Report is here!
During the extraordinary challenges presented by 2020, the AsylumConnect platform matched thousands of LGBTQ+ people in need with the verified affirming legal, medical, mental health and social services that can help. As of the end of 2020, the free platform can match persecuted LGBTQ+ people with safe services in 35 U.S. states, Canada and Mexico.
The organization also strengthened its capacity in 2020 by adding 4 part-time staff members and launching a new junior board program for young professionals. For its innovation in social impact, AsylumConnect was named to Fast Company’s 2020 World Changing Ideas Awards (Finalist in the Apps category). Throughout 2020, the organization’s LGBTQ+ and refugee rights advocacy also appeared in national outlets including Forbes.com, The Hill, NBC OUT and The American Prospect.
We are encouraged by the recent U.S. presidential election results and America's potential under a more inclusive administration to return to a world leader on both LGBTQ+ and refugee rights. We plan to scale the AsylumConnect platform during 2021 to meet this demand.
During 2021, AsylumConnect plans to ensure its free platform is ready to welcome thousands of new LGBTQ+ asylum seekers and refugees to America and in safe havens internationally.
